Personal View of 'The Lady with the Dog'(Anton Chekhov)

    I remember that many students in D1 did not like the story. However, I appreciate this story even more than the last two stories.   

    The point that I gave a high score is the way Anton Chekhov finish this story. It is an open ending. In most of the short stories, especially at the time that The Lady with the Dog was created, there are many endings in which the person who has mainly committed an affair repents. I cannot sympathize with those types of endings. If my wife cheated on me, I never want to forgive her. That kind of ending is too far from the real emotions of a human.

    The literary trend of this short story is Russian realism, and I think it has to be realistic. In this respect, this story realistically expressed the feelings and actions of a middle-aged man who fell in love. So I gave a high score. The reason why two points were cut is that the theme of infidelity was a little difficult to understand for me.
