Personal View of 'The Sisters, Dubliners' (James Joyce)
The Sisters by James Joyce
Rating: 8.0/10
The corruption of religion has always been a problem, and it is easy to check in this story. Especially, the sexual stuff with a young boy. Even though lots of people in Ancient Greek had relationships with young boys, however, in the aspect of these days, it is inappropriate. I found the description of moist lips in his dream, and it is a clue of the relationship between a young boy and the priest. Then why he could not remember all the things? Often people experience serious trauma, they forgot and make the event not happened in memories.
Then, I could find that he drank some sherry wine, and it shows his eagerness to avoid the priest or being a priest because it is forbidden to priests. So I'm pretty sure the inappropriate things were done between the boy and the priest.
This story shows the religious corruption of Dublin at that chaotic time because of the independent war between Ireland and UK, so I felt curious about another description of Ireland that is written in this book. I think this is a good story to start the book.
